Summer Break So Far

Summer break has been nice so far.  Not too busy yet, just some slower days together.

I cleaned out Crosby's closet and packed away a lot of our little kid books, which was sad for me.  I've read these with the kids so many times.  The Sandra Boynton books...I think Lane and I both have those memorized.  Many sweet memories represented here.  Kids grow up so fast.
Crosby has outgrown most of his super hero costumes, so he told me I could "put them in a box for grandkids".  :(  He asked my parents for the Wolverine costume for Christmas one year.  Batman makes me think of him wearing it while climbing the Japanese Maple tree in front of our house in Little Rock.  And the Spiderman costume was probably his favorite.  I loved seeing him zoom around the house in it.
One evening we grilled hot dogs, swam and had s'mores and watermelon.
Crosby did a basketball camp at the school.
We popped popcorn and watched E.T. one night.  The kids liked it!
Lots of things blooming around our yard!  I love this time of year.  Our tomatoes should be ripe soon.
Our Wal-Mart recently started pick-up service.  It is wonderful!  I haven't been inside the store in over a month!
The kids took tennis academy throughout May.  We're taking a break in June but plan to return in July.
Fun night at the new shaved ice stand with friends.
We went bowling with friends...
and rode bumper cars there, too!  The cars flipped upside down!
We've been seeing these twin fawns in our yard.  So sweet!

Summer Fun

Lately...
The kids are doing a tennis clinic, and they all seem to like it!  Alexee and Crosby are in the same class, Rhett is in the older age division class.

Lane's brother's family was in town for a reunion, so we enjoyed lunch with them!  It was good to catch up and to have the cousins all together.
Last weekend we decided to do an art "class".  We all painted a jar of fireflies.  Alexee and Crosby had fun doing this...I'm not so sure about Rhett.  :)
Young Artists
We tried to go swimming one afternoon, but it rained/stormed us out after an hour.  We came home, and our power was out.
Last Saturday morning we went out for breakfast.  The cinnamon rolls here are so good!  You can see them making them behind the glass.

That afternoon we went to see The Secret Life of Pets, which was cute!
I also picked our first produce last weekend!  We used these for tacos that night (plus some lettuce that we grew).
Summer is going by very quickly.  I'm enjoying the time with the kids, and I'm not at all ready for school to start yet.  Things get so crazy busy as soon as school starts.

Berry Farm Fun

We started June with a trip to the blueberry farm.  This was our second year to go, so I will just go ahead and call it a tradition.  :)  It's such a pretty, peaceful place.  We had thunder muffins for breakfast in their restaurant before picking berries.
We had two buckets.  Alexee and Rhett filled one, Crosby and I filled the other for a total of 11 pounds of blueberries.
Not all areas were open for picking because some of the berries weren't quite ripe, but it was no problem finding enough ripe ones to fill the buckets.  And I love that blueberry bushes don't have stickers.  That makes them much easier to pick that blackberries!
The Queen Anne's Lace was also really pretty in the field.
Enjoyed the morning with these sweeties!
Weighing the blueberries in the store.
Before we left the kids shared a blueberry milkshake.  Yum!
Great morning, great start to summer!

Spring Break Family Time

Spring Break was the week of March 14th this year, and we all went to White River for the first few days of it (Sun.-Tues.).  We were lucky to have great weather while we were there.  It seems like it's usually cold and/or rainy on spring break, but it was in the mid 70s this time!  This was our 5th year in a row to go to the river house:  201220132014 and 2015.  Wow how time flies.
Day 1 - ready to play!
We got there around noon on Sunday and enjoyed a beautiful, relaxing afternoon.  Sunday night my parents and grandparents came over for dinner.  Dad grilled steaks and boiled shrimp, and we also had baked beans, baked potatoes, corn on the cob and bread.  YUM!  For dessert we had rice crispy treats from Mo and cake and ice cream to celebrate the boys' March birthdays.  Rhett requested a cookie cake, and Crosby asked for a red velvet.  Just as we were clearing the table and getting ready to cut cake the power went out!  No worries though, my grandparents happened to have two kerosene lanterns there at the house, so we had dessert by lantern light.  It was actually really fun! (For a little while. :) But we were happy when the power came back on around 10:30 that night.)
Happy 12th to Rhett and Happy 7th to Crosby.
We love you both!

The quiet mornings were nice.  The kids have been playing a lot of card games lately.  And I think this is Bogart's favorite week of the year.  He always has a blast getting to be a country dog.
The next day my Dad took us fishing.  It was a perfect day for it!  He took Lane and the boys out in the boat first, then later on Lane and Rhett traded and Alexee and I went out with Crosby.
The boys caught several fish, and Alexee did too when she went out later.  For some reason I wasn't having good luck, but that's fine--I'm happy just being out on the river.  It's one of my favorite places to be.
Dad let the kids all take a turn running the boat.  They did great and loved every minute of it!
Alexee loves to read and write.  She spent a lot of time doing both during this trip.
While the boys were out fishing, we took Bogart on a farm buggy ride (Alexee drove and I held on to Bogart because he jumped out last year!) and picked a bouquet of jonquils.  They are such a cheerful sign of spring.
I like Bogart's little shadow in this picture below.  :)
Alexee reeling them in!
That afternoon Rhett went birthday shopping with Dad.  Mom and Dad had told him he could pick out a new bike for his birthday.  He came back with a really cool red and black one!  Now the kids all have bikes that fit them, and I can use R's old one.  We want to convince Lane to get one so we can all go for rides together.
Monday night we had burgers and sat by the campfire.  The kids played football.  After dark we looked at stars and identified constellations using an app on Lane's phone.  The sky was so clear!  It was such a pleasant evening.  I didn't want it to end.
My cousin invited us to go out fishing with him the next day!  It was another fun afternoon.  The kids caught a lot of fish, and it was great to get to spend time with Keith.  We were really thankful he took the time to take us fishing--he was a great guide.
Crosby was quite the fisherman!
Rhett was complaining about being hot...so Keith helped him out by pouring a pitcher of cold river water on his head!  :)  Rhett is all about comfort when out on the water...this takes priority over catching fish.
Keith and Alexee with her nice trout!
I enjoyed having the time away with them.  It seems like we stay so busy running from one activity to the next these days.  It's nice to slow down and have a chance to just spend time together.  They are growing up way too fast.
