A Special Weekend: Birthday & Baptism
The last weekend of August was really special for us. Lane's parents came up on Friday. Saturday we celebrated L's birthday with lunch at The Landing, cake and ice cream and the first Razorbacks game of the season on TV.
Happy Birthday, Lane!
Back in June, Alexee told us the wonderful news that she would like to be baptized. We talked a lot about what baptism represents, and on June 22, 2014 she prayed to ask Jesus into her heart. What an amazing blessing to get to see her accept Christ and grow in Him!
Opening her baptism card gift from Grammy & Bobba on Saturday evening:
Sunday morning, August 31st (Lane's actual birthday) we all drove to church in Flippin. Alexee suggested that Bro. Steve baptize her at Mo & Grandad's church--I loved that she wanted to do that. Bro. Steve actually baptized me a long time ago, too. (September 1986)
Such a wonderful day.
Alexee is very blessed to have such wonderful Grandparents that love her so much! I know they have prayed many prayers for her.
And her Great-Grandparents love her so much too! Such an honor to get to share this day with so many loved ones. (The Communion table behind them looked so pretty. It was really neat that she also got to take her first Communion on the day she was baptized.)
So glad that Uncle Mario, Aunt Kala, Jaiden & Jeryn came to celebrate with us!
Our family before the service.
Rejoicing in how God is working in her life!
After church we all went out for brunch...great meal and great to be together! So thankful.
and Happy Birthday, Lane! We love you!
What a great day. God is good.

Sweet Weekend Memories
Saturday, August 23rd...lunch with Mo & Grandad at the Keeter Center.
Then we walked over to the lake to see the ducks and swans.
We thought this was such a pretty shade tree.
Sunday, the 24th...Lane was working, so the kids and I decided to go to Flippin for the afternoon. It was a really hot day, but the kids stayed cool playing in the water. Dad and Rhett decided to fish for a little while, and they were really biting!
Lots of fun (and some fighting/pushing each other in the water)!
And Crosby even did some "surfing"! It was a great day.

First Day of School
My friends Ali & Lianne and their families were so sweet to send the kids a balloon bouquet the day before they started at their new schools. They were excited to get such a fun surprise! Thank you, girls--y'all are awesome!!
I loved this picture! :) :) :)
That night we tried to get in bed early so everyone would be rested and ready to go on Thursday. Crosby was super excited about starting Kindergarten, but I could't help but wish I could rewind time. How could five years go by so quickly?
These are the books we read the night before Kindergarten. This Richard Scarry book is one of our favorites, especially the fire fighter stories. I wonder how many times we've read The Firefighters' Busy Day and Smokey's Fire Engine?

And these two...I don't think they wanted summer to end. They weren't quite as enthusiastic as Crosby, but I know they'll do great too! :)
Here we go again with the lunch-preparing, snack packing, etc.!
Morning photo time:
5th, 2nd and K
Praying they all make new friends and learn a lot!
Lane was off work that day, so he went to school with us--so glad that worked out.
Our fun-loving, confident, joyful Kindergartener:
Our thoughtful, super-sweet, energetic Second Grader:
And our kind-hearted, analytical, responsible Fifth Grader
(and 11 year-old Bogart):
Rhett wanted me to walk him inside his building. Lane, Alexee & Crosby waited in the car while I took R to the gym where the classes sit together before the bell rings. I didn't want to embarrass him, so I didn't take any more pictures. It was hard to walk away and leave him in a room full of strangers.
Crosby was in a hurry to get inside the building. He told us he didn't need us to walk him to his class. We followed behind at a reasonable (to him) distance, and I snapped a few pictures of him putting his things in his new locker for the first time. Then he walked into the classroom, sat down on the rug and started playing with a toy. No tears and barely a good-bye wave. While I was very thankful that he felt so comfortable with the whole process, part of me really felt like hiding in his locker and crying for a long time.
1st-3rd grades were told to meet in the gym, so we dropped Alexee off there. (She had accidentally stepped on C's foot, so he was mad about that in these pictures. ha!)
It was such a big help for Alexee to already have two friends to sit with. She still looked slightly nervous, but I felt better knowing she'd at least have two familiar faces at lunch and recess. We waited outside the gym door, along with her friends' parents, and waited for them to walk to their new classroom. I think these girls will become dear friends and have an awesome year together in Miss B's class!
Lane and I went to Panera Bread for breakfast with some other families that we've met. When we got back home I saw C's footballs on the kitchen counter. So sweet to me (reminded me of when I saw A's pink blankets when she went to K). The house seemed very quiet. He must have been so excited that he got sidetracked when making up his bed--he forgot to put the pillows on. :)
I was anxious to go pick everyone up. The first day went fine. R's school is 15 minutes ahead on morning and afternoon schedule, so I picked him up first. He said he missed his old school, but I assured him it was just going to take a little time. Things have improved a little each day, and now he has a few new friends that he is hanging out with. They all really like their teachers. Alexee seemed like she had a good day, and Crosby's only complaint was that he didn't get to ride the bus home. He told me that he "didn't like school, he LOVED it!" and then the second morning he told me he "likes school like he likes sweet cake!"

Meet-the-Teachers
(Behind on posting...)
The kids all seem to have wonderful teachers! The Kindergarten teachers here call to introduce themselves and then set up an individual meeting time with each student and their family. I thought this was so nice and helpful! Crosby's meeting with Mrs. H was August 14th. She is super sweet and organized and her room is a very fun camping theme, which C loved! I know she will be a wonderful teacher for C!
He dropped off his supplies at his new desk!
And then his favorite part--the locker! Mrs. H gave him a name magnet and told him he could choose any locker that didn't already have a name on it! She showed him how to open and close it and let him practice a few times.
She also assigned homework for the first day: decorate the paper doll to look like you. He had fun working on his project in his Christmas pajamas. :)
Homework completed!
She also told him he could decorate a cover for his binder, and I thought it was so cute that he drew himself and Cole at the swimming pool (that's the blue water and the water climbing wall on the right). :)
He's really excited about starting school!
*****
Meet the teacher time for grades 1-6 was held on Tuesday, August 19th, and school started on the 21st. We stopped by the cafeteria to find Alexee's name on a class list, then went to the 2nd grade wing to meet Miss B. She was so kind and welcoming--we loved her instantly! Then when we saw the names of two friends from Kanakuk on desks in her room we were SO excited! I'd been worried about Alexee meeting new friends at her new school, so this was a huge blessing. Miss B let her put her name tag on a desk right across from the girls that she knew. This helped her feel comfortable on the first day, and I am so thankful!
She was also happy to choose a locker!

Next we stopped by the spirit wear booth and Crosby and I chose school t-shirts. (The booth was outside in the sun, so Rhett said he was too hot to look at shirts and Alexee said she was too thirsty.) Then we went across the street to the Intermediate School to find out about R's teacher. This was our first time to see the inside of the intermediate building. It's really nice--we especially liked the library. 5th Grade--I can't believe it (seems like we just met his Kindergarten teacher).
He has a young, sweet, fun teacher too! Mrs. H welcomed us to the new school and said that she knew Rhett would fit right in.
After meeting R's homeroom teacher, art teacher, gym coach and librarian (who is a Razorbacks fan and her son is in R's class), we went to dinner at Outback. Later that evening I went back to the Elementary campus with five other moms and we sat on the sidewalk and prayed for the kids, teachers, staff, etc. I'm nervous about our new beginning (maybe more nervous than the kids?), but I trust it will be a great year for everyone!
