Third grade took a spring field trip (4/26) to the Laura Ingalls Wilder historic home in Mansfield, MO. They didn't have room for parents to attend this time, but the teacher shared some cute pictures from their fun day:
The weekend of 4/28-5/1 Lane's parents came up to visit us. We were all looking forward to seeing them! Thursday night we went out to dinner. Friday night we had tickets to see a show, which was really good. I think everyone enjoyed it! The kids stayed very interested in it the whole time, and we has aisle seats so many of the animals walked right by us.
Saturday morning, 4/30, Rhett attended a Young Authors Conference (selected as a representative from his class). Crosby was also scheduled to have a soccer game that morning, but it was canceled due to rain. He was disappointed, and Grammy and Bobba were disappointed about not getting to watch him play. It seems like it always rains when they are here.
So we picked Rhett up at 12:30, ate a late lunch, then drove to Flippin for my Grandparents' 65th Wedding Anniversary Celebration! It was originally scheduled to be an outdoor party held here at this white house, the first place my Grandparents called "home", but sadly the weather did not cooperate for that either. It was sunny when we first arrived, so we stopped by to see the work they'd recently done on the house (they no longer live in it). Everything looked so pretty! I've always loved the front porch, shady yard and rock wall. Due to the stormy forecast they decided to move the event inside at a different location, which was a good call because it POURED rain and even hailed later that evening during the party!
My aunt wrote this history of the house:
The irises at the white house place were in full bloom! Beautiful!
I love this view from the kitchen window. It's so neat to think about my Grandmother cooking meals here when they were first married.
And as we were talking in the front yard, my Dad glanced down and saw this tiny bunny sitting in the grass just a few feet from where we were standing. I don't know how we kept from stepping on it! We gently picked it up and took a closer look. He was so sweet, and the kids loved getting to hold him.
They've done a lot of restorations to the house over the years. Here's Grandmother showing the kids the wood cook stove. The top right picture is the pantry. The house has such pretty natural light.
The five of us, Lane's parents and my Grandparents on the front steps of the house:
Soon it was time to go to the party. Everything was decorated so pretty. Blue hydrangeas are one of my very very favorites.
I didn't take many pictures during the party. I didn't even get one of my Grandparents together there, or one with their four daughters. They had a photographer, so it's well documented, but I wish I'd taken more pictures too. Here are just a few:

It was a very special day, surrounded by family and friends. I'm thankful for my Grandparents' example and for the large family that I'm blessed to be a part of as a result of their marriage (65 years: 4 daughters, 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren with 2 more babies on the way...if I counted correctly?!)
We were all tired that evening! It had been a long, busy-but-great day. Grammy opened her (early) Mother's Day gift that night. We gave her a flower pot, garden flag and a garden tile (one of those mix-up, personalized kits), so the kids made the tile before bed so it could dry over night before their drive home on Sunday. Bobba and Crosby also worked on Lego creations for a long time!
Sunday we went to brunch at the Keeter Center before they left town. We always enjoy eating there. It was a wonderful weekend with them here, and we hope they will visit us again soon!
