Breakfast in Bed II

This morning R wanted to take L breakfast again. Alexee doesn't like for anyone to eat without her, so she climbed up in the bed and helped herself to some toast. You can tell she's enjoying herself!

I'm still waiting my turn for breakfast in bed!?

100 degrees

This is R at swim lesson yesterday (standing up on the left).  I'm not sure how long we'll keep taking lessons...maybe through August?
I rarely watch the weather, but I think this week was our first time to break 100 degrees this summer.  My car read 102 degrees when we left swim lesson.

Purple Box

Last Christmas Mo & Granddad gave Alexee and her cousin, Jaiden, each a purple box filled with hair clips, bands, a brush, etc.  The clips are small, and Alexee barely had any hair until just recently, so I've had hers in the bathroom cabinet.  When Jaiden spent the night a few weeks ago, she brought hers and Alexee had the best time looking through it and carrying the box around.  I got it out today and it kept her busy for a long time!  She used the ponytail holders as bracelets.  It will be so fun to fix her hair when it gets a little longer.  I always loved braiding my dolls' hair.  My cousin, Carrie, taught me to French-braid on a Barbie's hair.

Lake Break

Yesterday was one of those perfect, memorable summer days. Some friends of ours invited us to spend the day with them at Lake DeGray, a beautiful, quiet lake between Hot Springs and Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Just driving there was neat for me because it brought back memories of my college days at OBU when I used to drive that road (Hwy 7) to Hot Springs. I don't think I've driven that way since 1999. We met the Parten and Stankiewicz families at the boat launch and motored over to meet up with the Rice family on their pontoon boat. I'm generally pretty scared of getting in the lake (I picture giant catfish, alligator gar and maybe even some sort of lake-loving snakes swimming just below the surface of the water), but it was scorching hot so I set aside those fears and hopped in. Rhett went out on the tube for the first time ever and loved it! He was so cute when he returned, grinning ear-to-ear, with a major wind-blown hairdo. There were three other boys there his age, and they jumped and splashed for hours and hours. Cute as she is in her swimsuit, there are no pictures of Alexee below because she spent the day with her Grandparents in the air-conditioning in Hot Springs (thanks again, Bob & Rose Mary). I'm sure she would have loved the boat ride and even the swimming, but I'm nervous around water as it is so it was nice to just keep an eye on Rhett for the day.

Here are the four sweet boys. All families present had a boy first, then a girl. The boys are all about the same age (a 9 month span between youngest and oldest), and the girls range from 3 months to almost 2 years old. It's so fun to watch these little boys play together--they are hilarious and all have their own cute personalities. Pictured L to R: Lawson, Garret, Logan and Rhett, excited about getting to the cove and jumping in!

We packed sandwiches for lunch (is it just me, or does everything taste better out on the water?) and tons of snacks. Water makes me hungry--I snacked all day long! Rhett and I taking a lunch break:

Loving the boat ride:

Here's his first tube ride. The boys and their daddies (plus Maddie, Logan's sister) went out in the ski boat for this adventure and had a blast. I love Rhett's expressions and his hair!

After the kids had their turns, Ali and I decided to give it a try! It was quite a sight...us trying to get into the tube was even a challenge. We had so much fun--we screamed and laughed the whole way!

Maddie is so cute and she's not afraid of anything. She did everything the boys did--maybe more! She was doing flips off the back of the boat at one point!

Garret enjoying a delicious sprinkle cookie after a swim:

Lawson on the jumping platform (at least that's what they used it for):

Lawon's cutie pie sis, Maylee. (Maylee promised she wouldn't tell Alexee and Lindy, Garret's sister, that she got to go to the lake.) She was a trooper. We enjoyed watching her maneuver around the pontoon in her puffy life-jacket. She did a lot of bouncing off things and rolling around, but loved every minute of it.

Rhett found the snack box. Swimming seems to work up quite an appetite.

For some reason these next two pictures almost make me cry because I kinda have a flash-forward when I look at them. I know it won't be long until these 4 year olds are in school and then all grown up, and we'll wish we could turn back time and watch them play the way they did yesterday. I love their sweet little pink cheeks and wet hair. They were beginning to look tired at the end of the day, but I don't think anyone wanted to go home.

Ali & Maylee

This was on the ride back to the boat launch as we were leaving. She was so tired, but she was really liking the wind in her hair.

What a fun day!

When we got back to Hot Springs to pick Alexee up, Lane's Mom had a huge dinner prepared. We had BBQ ribs, potato casserole, monkey bread, baked beans and a delicious ice cream and Oreo dessert. What a perfect ending to a perfect day! Thanks to the Partens and the Rices for sharing your boats with us...we had a wonderful time!

Attempted Jailbreak

She did not actually make it by the gate, but she tried really hard! I was at the computer and noticed what she was doing and grabbed the camera. It was funny watching her try to figure out how to get out!

Camp Update

I forgot to update, but Rhett & his friend, Lawson, did not return to camp the remainder of the week. It was just too unorganized and did not seem worth the money. I didn't feel comfortable leaving R there--it wasn't supervised enough for me or entertaining enough for a large group of 4 year olds. We talked R into going to MDO on his usual days instead (they were having a bounce house there one day, which was probably more fun anyway). I'm usually not one to get too upset about things (Lane, stop laughing), but I was so irritated about this whole ordeal. I considered saying something to the manager, but confrontation is definitely not my thing. Maybe I was over-reacting...maybe the other kids there were safe and had a wonderful time all week?? I also didn't want to be labeled as that mom, since we're often at this facility. Oh well, moving on.

Easy snack project

I saw this easy little snack in a recent Kraft magazine.  I thought Rhett would enjoy making them because he likes to assemble things.  He was in charge of peanut butter.  You just need Nilla Wafers, peanut butter and chocolate chips (melted in microwave).  Make PB sandwiches and dip in chocolate as in the picture.

Construction Builder

I went into R's room this afternoon after his rest time and found him wearing a winter coat, long pants and cowboy boots.  He said he was dressing up like a "construction builder".  He also had his suitcase on his bed and said he was packing for a trip.

Hot summer days

It is REALLY starting to feel like summertime now. I can't help but wish for fall--it is so hot and humid. We met friends at the church playground this morning, but I don't think the kids even felt like playing. They usually don't want to leave, but everyone seemed ready to move on today. Rhett's and Alexee's faces were both bright red, and my friend Lianne heard Rhett say, "If only I could have some juice and a snack." So needless to say, we didn't play long. But then we moved the party over to a pizza place and had a great lunch and enjoyed the best invention ever--air-conditioning. They have a game area that keeps all the kids occupied which is so helpful--I wish every restaurant had this! They played right up until the pizza was brought to the table.

I held the camera up above my head to take this one because A's high-chair was blocking me from getting up. It cut off Stacy, Madelynn, Alexee, me and part of Rhett. We had a table full though!

Staying Cool

We went over to our friends' pool for a little while today. It's such a great place and so nice not to fight the crowds. Alexee is a handful--pretty much anywhere--but especially around water. She wasn't sure if she wanted in or out, but she did enjoy the Doritos. Rhett had a blast--Aunt Charla helped him dive for toys at the bottom of the pool, a skill he recently learned in swim lessons.
