Sunday pics

Both kids wore blue to church today--I think it's a great color on them because of their pretty blue eyes!

Curtain Project

So I finally got a shower curtain for the kids' bath. I ordered the striped curtain from Pottery Barn Kids and made the valance last night. It was supposed to be a simple, 30 minute sewing exercise. It turned into a 3 hour project, and I was extremely frustrated. I somehow got the measurements wrong on the rod pocket and used a cute, zig-zag stitch which took FOREVER to rip out. I finally finished it at midnight and tip-toed into the Jack-n-Jill bath attached to A's room to install it. I knew I ran the risk of waking her up, but I'd been so frustrated with the curtain that I needed some closure. So here's the final product:

Cute trash can from The Container Store

(It bugs me that this cabinet is attached to the wall rather than centered over the toilet.)

Organization

Earlier this month, a new store opened here: The Container Store. We went in briefly yesterday before dinner, and oh wow--it is the neatest store ever! I wanted to buy everything in there (and so did Rhett--it was a constant battle putting things back on the shelves). It gave me a huge desire to do some spring cleaning and organization. Yesterday's purchases were 1) a frog trash can with a lid for the kids' bathroom and 2) an awesome, hinged spice rack that you bolt into the cabinet and it lowers down so you can see all the spices. I'll post a picture after L installs it (assuming it fits in our cabinet). The store had a great gift wrapping section with all shapes and sizes of boxes--I barely even glanced at it, but I plan to go back soon!

After our great shopping experience, we had dinner at one of our favorite Mexican Restaurants. This morning the kids and I met my friend Stacy and her kids at McDonald's (or "Old MacDonald's" as R calls it...we rarely eat there, so he doesn't know the name...un-American, I know). They had fun in the indoor playground. We were hoping for an outdoor activity today, but the weather didn't cooperate. L is studying today. I think we're going out to eat when he gets home. Off to clean house...wish I had some new cleaning tools from The Container Store to make chores more exciting! :) Happy Saturday!

Jaiden's Party

Last night Rhett & I attended Jaiden's birthday party.  Her birthday was actually last week, the day after R's.  They had a great time eating pizza, cake and playing.  Happy (belated) B-day to Jaiden...we love you!

Movie Date

This morning Rhett & I met some friends at the theater to see Horton Hears a Who. It was a great little movie! Rhett shared Skittles with his friend Olivia, and she shared her popcorn. They both sat so still and quiet eating their snacks, and they were so cute laughing at parts of the movie. They were both concerned for Horton, but as you might expect, it all ends well. Take your child to see it if you get a chance (but go by the bank first--movie tickets are $7 each these days...and you know about the overpriced candy and cokes...but it was worth it for a fun outing with Rhett)!

Sonic Break

Yesterday afternoon we made a quick trip to Sonic and to the car wash. We took the long way home (an extra 5 minutes) so that we could look for colorful trees in bloom. We saw this gorgeous forsythia bush and flowering tree (not sure what kind of tree?).

When we got home, we went out to play on the deck. Alexee helped herself to my cherry limeade. It was so cute--I didn't even know she knew how to use a straw.

Thanks to Lane's Dad who put up gates on the deck last week when they were here keeping the kids. We have two sets of steps into the yard, and the gates have been such a big help with Alexee! They stress Bogart out a little bit, but he'll survive.

A Park Picnic

Rhett and his buddies are on spring break this week (from MDO), so we met at the park to play and have a picnic.

Garret, Lawson & Rhett. It's funny to listen in on their conversations while they eat. They're a cute group of boys!

Spring Break Trip

Lane and I just returned from a fun three day trip to San Antonio. It was very relaxing. I'm really thankful that we had a chance to get away together for a few days. Below are a few photos from our trip (click here to see the new album):

Friday afternoon at the San Jose Mission.

We had lunch with my friend Heather and her family while we were there. They were in town visiting her sister and brother-in-law for Easter.

Couldn't miss out on a picture by The Alamo (it was closed when we got there, so no inside tour).

At The Alamo

THANK YOU to Bobba and Grammy for your wonderful babysitting while we were away!

Purple Cow Dinner Tradition

Photos from the 4th annual Purple Cow b-day dinner:

Happy (Real) Birthday to Rhett!

It's so hard to believe that it's been FOUR years since we welcomed this little guy into our lives! (Click here for pictures from that wonderful day.)

We've been celebrating for over a week now, but today is his real birthday. When I went into his room this morning, the first thing he said was, "Are there balloons everywhere for the party?" I had to remind him that we'd already had his party with his friends and today was family celebration. He then said he wanted to play party games, like egg in the spoon races (which he said they did on Little Bear for a birthday party). So we had egg in spoon races this afternoon. We ate at two of his favorite places today--lunch at Heavenly Ham (they gave him a card and suckers) and dinner at Purple Cow. He had swim lessons this afternoon, and he put his face in the water and blew bubbles--a big accomplishment!

Egg Hunting with Friends

This afternoon we went to my friend Kristy's house for an egg hunt. It was so much fun, and they had everything decorated so cute for Easter! Lane & I worked at Andersen with Kristy several years ago. It was great to see her and her family and also to catch up with some other people that we used to work with. (Thank you, Kristy, for a fun time! I guess it was obvious that Rhett enjoyed it when he asked you if we could come back next Easter!)

I took iced sugar cookies to the party. I couldn't resist this cute tiered stand at Target a few weeks ago. I thought today would be a good time to use it, although it's a little bit awkward to travel with (I tried to cover it with about 20 feet of Saran Wrap, but I don't think that accomplished much). The only spring cookie cutters that I had on hand were a tulip and a chick...so we went with that.

Beautiful tree in their yard--FULL of blooms. I love spring!

Kristy made these super cute cupcakes!
