Saturday in the sprinkler

I thought it was sweet that R was sharing his leftover purple cow shake with his sister. He asked if it was okay to give her a bite--she was very appreciative! I think Bogart is hoping his turn is next.Yesterday afternoon we hooked up the sprinkler in the back yard. Rhett ran through it time after time, but Alexee wasn't sure whe wanted to get her hair wet. She played frisbee with Bogart instead.

Fish Tank

We met a friend at an indoor playground this morning. As you can see in the photo below, Rhett wore his cowboy boots again. His friend, Lawson, told me that one fish was vacuuming the bottom of the tank. Alexee loved the bright yellow fish and got very excited seeing them swim by!I think Lane is going to take Rhett to a baseball game this evening, then he has tickets to the first football game tomorrow. Ali is planning to come over to scrapbook on Saturday. Sunday is L's birthday, so we plan to have strawberry pie after church and possibly go out to dinner Sunday night. I hope you have a great 3-day weekend--I'm looking forward to it!

Update: They decided to skip the baseball game and go to Purple Cow for a guys' dinner instead. Here they are on their way out:

Wonder Place

It doesn't feel as much like fall today, so this morning we went to The Wonder Place for some indoor, air-conditioned fun before meeting Lane for lunch at Heavenly Ham. We haven't been there in a long time (mostly because I think it's too expensive), but both kids had a lot of fun and tried almost every activity. My favorite picture is the one of R listening to the penguin's heartbeat at the vet's clinic. He was going to take a look in the penguin's ears with the otoscope, but he asked me, "Where are the penguin's ears?" and I didn't know so he moved on to something else.  :)

Grammy & Bobba came to visit!

Lately R wants to wear these cowboy boots everywhere we go...including swim lessons. So he walked up to the pool wearing brown tropical print swim trunks, a red and blue Niagara Falls t-shirt and these boots. He doesn't like flip-flips because he thinks his feet get dirty while wearing them. He was the only child there toweling off his feet so that he could put his socks and boots back on, but oh well. Today was his last summer session swim lesson. I'm excited about the improvement he's made over the summer. Here he is doing "popcorns".
I really really cannot believe he's this big.
He's had great teachers all summer long--I'm so thankful for all of them. Bless their hearts for being patient enough to take on a job like this. Mr. Loren has pushed the kids more than some of the other teachers, which I think is great.
Lane's parents were in town today and came by to visit. They went along to see R's swim lesson (and help entertain Alexee--a big job!). Bobba took her for a lap or two around the indoor track. What she really wants is to get in the water with Rhett. Several times during each lesson she goes over to the edge of the pool beside him and waves at him.
Practicing floating on his back:

Grammy, Bobba, Alexee and Rhett:
Tonight, L's parents treated us to dinner at Outback Steakhouse for L's birthday, which is Sunday. (Mary Katherine, he has requested a strawberry pie...I hope I can make it right this time!) Alexee didn't want to sit, as usual, so we went to the car and watched a DVD until Lane called to let me know that the food had arrived. Thanks, Bob & Rose Mary, for coming to visit today and for the great dinner. I know Rhett loved having an audience at swim lesson!

Every-day stuff

Like most girls, Alexee loves shoes! It's always funny to find her wearing shoes that belong to someone else. This time it was Rhett's "Sunday shoes".
While A was napping yesterday afternoon, R & I decided to play in the back yard.

He saw this on a cartoon and ran to the kitchen to grab a spoon and try it for himself:
This was the self-portrait he made at school this week. He said his teacher told him to use yellow for his hair. You can see two eyes and a nose and a mouth, and he said he "added pink to make the lips since lips are pink". I love to see where he's written his name. I think his R's are cute.
Today our Chez Ami clothing box arrived--yippee! We love getting good mail! I can't wait for them to wear their new outfits, especially the brown and green ones!

Playing frisbee

Alexee and I have been out in the back yard playing frisbee with Bogart and enjoying the great weather. It almost feels like fall!

A visit with Kelly

We were super excited to have our friend, Kelly, visit this afternoon! I haven't seen her since Christmas, so it was really fun to catch up! Rhett asked all day long when she would be here. He even cleaned the playroom for the occasion. The kids loved her--Alexee climbed all over her and wanted her to look at books with her and Rhett wanted to show her all sorts of things around the house such as the yard gate key, the closet under the stairs, the computer games that he plays and the chocolate chip cookies that we made yesterday. I made Winnie's White Chocolate Drops this morning and have nearly made myself sick eating them all day. I sent a to-go box home with Kelly...the fewer I eat, the better.Alexee enjoyed looking at the Clifford book with K:

Kelly is expecting a sweet baby girl, Harper, in January. I made this little hairbow holder for H's bow collection--she'll have to have lots of bows to go with all these cute dresses!!!

Thanks SO MUCH for taking the time to come and see us today, Kelly!!! I hope you'll come back soon and bring Harper! It was great to see you.

Rocking Horse Ride

Tonight after bath:...maybe this way would be more interesting?
...maybe wearing a hat would add something to the ride?
...maybe wearing a hat and standing up would be even better!

Beware of dog

Last week Lane took Bogart to the vet because he hurt his back (again--it happened once before in '06). They gave him a steroid shot and sent him home with muscle relaxers. I took him back in to the see the vet today, but the issue was actually just a side-effect of the back medicine, so no real probelm. When the assistant came in to take his temperature, she said, "Now Bogart, don't bite me this time." It surprised me so I asked, "Did he bite you last time!?!?" She said, "Oh, no, he didn't, but it says here in his file that he is a 'biter and a scratcher', so I was just a little concerned that he might try." This was kind-of funny to me because I've only known him to act like a statue at the vet's office because he's always so terrified. I don't think he looks very dangerous in these pictures, do you?

Congratulations!

Congratulations to my friend, Kelly! Take a look at her blog to read about their exciting day! I'm sooooo thrilled for their family!

Wishing a Happy Birthday...

...to my dear friend, Heather! I hope you have a perfect day!

Heather and I have been friends for 13 years. We've stayed in touch and visited each other a few times a year since she transferred from OBU at Christmas ('95). We always have such a good time together--mostly eating and shopping! :) She's a very special friend to me!

First Day of Fall MDO

Today was the big day--back to school! Here they are inside the door, on their way to their classes. (He looks content here, but this is just seconds before R got mad and started crying because we took the stairs instead of the elevator--ahhh!) I sat him down on a bench outside his classroom and (calmly) told him to get a better attitude before going in to see his new teacher and classmates. He quickly recovered from the drama and went right in, no more problems.
This is the neat reading area outside his classroom. I like the banners made from painted brown paper--I think I might try to do this in one corner of our playroom. He'd like painting the triangles.
I also liked the chairs they had to hold each child's backpack and lunch box...more fun than a plain hook on the wall!
Here he is showing me his first artwork when I went in to pick him up. It was based on the book of the day, The Kissing Hand.

Here's the wall full of bags and lunch boxes for Alexee's classroom. I didn't take pictures of her room today because she didn't cry when I dropped her off so I didn't want to linger to take pictures in case she decided to get upset. I was going to take some when I picked her up at noon, but the lights were off and they were putting the other kids down for naps, so I didn't think they'd appreciate me using flash photography!
I got several things done today while they were at school--went to Jiffy Lube to have an (overdue) oil change in the Tahoe, the post office for stamps, Children's Place to shop for some casual fall clothes for Rhett (I didn't find much there for Alexee), shopped at Francesca's and went to the Crown Shop to look for invitations for a baby shower that I'm helping with in September. The morning went by so fast! I think they both had a good first day at school, and I enjoyed the time to run errands by myself.
