Luigi, Sleeping Beauty & Pirate

We've had a busy but fun day. We had a long morning at church 8:45-12:45, then Alexee and Crosby took good naps, then we went back to church for the fall festival at 4:00 and finally finished the evening with trick-or-treating in our neighborhood.

Here they are before we left for the festival:
Just like when his brother wore this pirate costume 5 years ago, Crosby had no interest in leaving the hat on. Lane was placing it on his head right before I snapped the pictures. Here Alexee is pointing to Snow White, our neighbor's little girl across the street.

Luigi
(Isn't the mustache funny!? I had to trim it a little so it wouldn't poke him in the eyes!)
Sleeping Beauty
(As expected, the crown, wand and light-up shoes did not make it very far.)

For fun, here's Rhett in the pirate costume in 2005

The fall family festival was super fun for the kids. It was sponsored by the Sageworks community, and they put together such a great event for families! Many of the "older adults" dressed up and decorated their cars/booths for the trunk-or-treat, which made it extra neat. This was Clifford & Emily Elizabeth--very cute!

I loved this picture of R with his arm around his sister. :) She was a little bit shy tonight for some reason (unusual), so he was sweet to stay right with her and encourage her to walk up to the cars.
This was a cool booth: Jonah's Fishing Hole. A suburban had been converted into a whale!
A sweet Veggie Tales group!

One of R's favorites because he watches this cartoon--Flintstones! Great costumes, guys! :)Crosby found another chicken that he liked

Alexee was excited to see her friend, Ann Katherine
It was fun seeing lots of friends there.
Snack time. They were giving away popcorn, bottled water and grilled hot dogs.
This picture cracks me up! Love the mustache!

Don't be alarmed, Luigi had done nothing illegal. This State Police car was parked there for the kids to look at. They even got to climb inside and push the siren button!
Huge blow-up slide. Alexee turned back about half-way up, but Rhett thought it was great! He flew down it!

When we got home we trick-or-treated with a few friends through our neighborhood. Toward the end of the walk, Alexee told me, "Momma, my whole body is tired." It reminded me of Halloween when R was about that age and he told us, "My shoes are getting tired. I need to go put them in the closet so they can rest."

I'm so glad the kids had a good time, but trick-or-treating made me a nervous wreck to be honest. It was hard to keep my eye on everyone because the girls and boys kept running to different houses, it was dark, lots of other kids were wandering around and cars were constantly driving by. I was so relieved to get everyone back home safely and lock the doors! Lane stayed home to give C a bath and hand out candy, which was my job last year and I think it's the better one! :) I always do this after being at stressful places with the kids (well, my definition of stressful...the lake, pool, crowded/busy places where they could easily get lost, etc.), but all night I dreamed about searching for them in the dark and not being able to find them!

Last Friday night Rhett went to his first birthday sleepover! He wasn't sure at first that if he wanted to stay, but he did and he had a blast! Since it was at the home of one of my best friends, I wasn't nervous with him going, and I was actually hoping he'd stay so he wouldn't miss out on the fun. However, I did sleep with my cell phone right beside me just in case she needed to call or text me to come get R in the middle of the night! They went out for pizza, went to the climbing wall and went back to the birthday boy's house to watch a movie. Here he is before I dropped him off at G's house--with his sleeping bag and other stuff. He LOVED the climbing wall. We weren't even out of G's driveway before R asked if we could take him to climb again soon! I'm so glad he has such nice friends and so glad he had a fun time!

Playing freeze-tag (R took this picture). Crosby loves to play with us, but after a while he wants to be carried.

All Stars Reading Day

On Wednesday the 1st graders had All Stars Reading Day. The kids were encouraged to wear a sports jersey (which also tied in with Red Ribbon Week) and bring a pillow and a stuffed animal for a reading buddy.Rhett was excited about the idea of getting to go to every 1st grade classroom for a different activity, but he said his favorite was his own classroom where they got to just relax on their pillows and read.

R's classroom. He thought it was cool that all the tables and chairs had been cleared out for the day.

I thought it was sweet how he smiled and waved at me when I arrived. :)

In one of the other rooms they listened to a story and then drew pictures to go along with it.

It's disturbing to me that this is even an issue that needs to be addressed with elementary-age kids, but sadly it is so I'm glad schools make a big deal out of it. Their theme this week: Show Good Character by Being Drug Free. I've talked to Rhett a lot (not just this week) about making good decisions, even when the people around him are not (whether relating to drugs or something else).
The theme days were fun for the kids:
Monday
"Give Drugs the Boot Day" (wear boots)
Tuesday
"Shade Out Drugs Day" (wear sunglasses)
Wednesday
"Team Up Against Drugs Day" (wear jersey or sports shirt, he wanted to wear his soccer uniform.)
Thursday
"Put a Cap on Drugs Day" (wear a cap/hat. R chose the golf cap that Bobba gave him)
Friday--"Wear Red Day"
According to the school nurse, Rhett will likely come home today wearing red AND black. As in a black eye. I missed two calls from the nurse while I was trying to get Alexee to take a nap, but luckily she reached Lane. Rhett and another child collided at recess and R has a big bruise under his eye. Lane talked to him on the phone though and asked him if he wanted to come home or stay at school, and he wanted to stay. The nurse told Lane he was just fine and whatever we wanted to do was okay.
*Update*
Ouch!
