Trick-or-Treat!

Happy Halloween!

Conversations

This afternoon R asked me if everyone in the world came out of someone else's tummy.  I said yes, then he asked me if anyone came out of God's tummy.  I reminded him that God created Adam and Eve, then He gave Eve a baby and then lots and lots and lots of babies have been born since then.  I said something like, "Someday when you're all grown up you'll have a family of your own and have a baby in your house."  I guess this bothered him a lot...not the baby part, but the indication that he would be living somewhere else.  He instantly got huge tears in his eyes and asked, "I won't live with you forever?  I want to stay here with you even when I'm grown."  Of course I nearly cried, too, and I told him that he could stay here as loooong as he wanted to.  I told him that if he changes his mind, then we'll come to visit him and his family often, but if he doesn't, he's welcome to stay here with us.  :)  (I'll come back and read this when he's a teenager and griping about what unfair parents we are.)

Autumn Stroll

After leaving the school party, we had about 30 minutes before time to meet Lane for lunch. So we stopped by the park and went for a walk in this really pretty area. The leaves are beginning to turn here, and the weather is just perfect--I hope for lots more of these great fall days in November! It was fun just being outside with the kids.Rhett checking out the creek:

Happy Halloween, Happy Fall!

Assuming we still have internet service (it's been off and on all week long--ugh), I'll post more Superman and Puppy trick-or-treating pictures tonight or tomorrow!

School Halloween Party

Rhett was excited about his school party today! Alexee & I dropped him off and ran an errand then came back for the end of the pumpkin hunt and the room party. We stopped by Alexee's room to take pictures of her fall artwork:
Here's Rhett's class in the courtyard with their pumpkins. Each child had one pumpkin with their name on it, and they had to search the courtyard to find it.
The kids were supposed to come as cowboys and cowgirls. I forgot to buy a hat, but his Wrangler jeans, western shirt, boots and bandanna from last year all worked again this year.

Back in the classroom for treats:
Ms. Susan was sweet to fix Alexee her own plate. Alexee loved hanging out in R's room.
After snacks, R wanted to show us around the room. Here he is by the Fruit of the Spirit poster--they have been learning these in class.
This is his lima bean--he was thrilled to see that it had sprouted since his last school day!

Lunch with cousins & early trick-or-treating

Yesterday the kids and I met my sister and her kids for lunch. It was the usual zoo...one cried over what was ordered for her, one got his entire sweatshirt in the 2 gallons of ketchup that he'd squirted on his plate, the two little ones were throwing Cheetos and pushing each other (well, Alexee was pushing) in the booth, etc. etc. I hope we left a good tip--I'm not sure I calculated correctly because of all the distractions.
After lunch we changed the kids into their costumes and drove the short distance to Uncle Mario's office for a quick trick-or-treat. They all had fun running around the office.

Superman (minus a cape--he said it was too "itchy") and Dorothy (in the ruby slippers my sister made for her--aren't they cute!):

Mic & kids came over and played for the afternoon. After they left, Rhett got to sort through the mail--it's been a great mail week for him! He received a Halloween package from his cousins in Hot Springs (stickers, Halloween socks, a book, etc.), Halloween cards from Grammy & Bobba (including toy money), and a letter and stickers from Mo! Thank you, everyone!

Unexpected Haircut

It must be something about this time of year...Rhett gets the urge to give himself haircuts (see last November). Looking back, it wasn't the best idea, but I trusted Rhett to use his little Kindergarten scissors to work on a Halloween Jack-O-Lantern activity, unsupervised. I guess the jack-o-lantern got boring, and hair seemed like a lot more fun to cut. I was just sick. Here we are again, approaching Christmas card photo time...with another buzz cut.

(If you see him, please don't mention the haircut--he knows he's in big trouble over it, and I think he realizes it's something he doesn't really need to laugh about. One of the ladies at the salon yesterday asked him, "Did you have fun with those scissors, Rhett?" He didn't say anything.)

Before:
After:Here he is planting the apple seeds from an apple he ate yesterday afternoon. He's hoping they will grow into a tree and we'll never have to go to the grocery store for apples again.

Tackle

Rhett says that he thinks Baby #3 is another girl.  He says that he likes being the only boy. A brother might not be as rough as his sister!

Garret's Birthday Party

Rhett & I went to his friend Garret's 5th birthday party this afternoon. October seems to be a popular birthday month around here! Garret had a costume party at the park, and it was a sunny, perfect day for it. There were riding toys and a pinata and delicious cake of course--a fun time was had by all!

Isn't this cake cute!? All the kids wanted a fondant spider!Superman borrowed someone's 4-wheeler for a ride. We've got to get this child a motorized toy...he was driving in reverse part of the time and he told me that he almost ran into a parked car!
