POOL BUILD
(Boring post, but just wanted to document for us.)

September-October 2015
Back yard before
Dirt work...The week before Halloween 2015.  They hit solid rock about 4' down.  At this point we were wondering what on earth we were thinking!
Steel phase.  It kept raining and filling the deep end with water.  It was a muddy MESS for a long time.  We did not want to look out the window or go in the back yard unless we had to.  They poured the concrete shell the first week of December 2015 (not pictured).  We were out of town then, so it was great to come home and see a big step completed.
Coping and rock wall...Started late March 2016.
Pavers...March-April, I think.  It took a while, but we loved how they looked when they were done!
Tile work
Excited to have another step completed.
Hot summer day before plaster...wishing this was full of water!
July 13
Exciting day--plaster company here from St. Louis!  Next step is to fill with water!
Installing lights and watching the water level (slowly) rise!
Finally time to fill.
Grammy & Bobba were here that weekend and saw the kids (and Bogart) take the first swim.  The kids loved it.  (Bogart did not.)  :)
FIRST JUMP!  JULY 16!!
So happy to be done and finally feeling like this might not have been a big mistake!  Ha!  Looks like the kids are going to enjoy it!!

First Day of School

Tuesday, August 16th
First day of 7th, 4th and 2nd grades
The new school year is off to a good start here!  We only had a four day week last week, but by Friday night I think we were all tired and very happy to see the weekend.  We are getting used to a new routine this fall because the kids are at three different schools with three different start and end times each day.  Rhett starts an hour earlier than last year, so that means earlier mornings and a little more driving.  We've been paranoid about being late.  At orientation the principal asked everyone to remember that, "Early is on time, and on time is late".  R has been ready to go each morning with no problems.  (Because he left the house first, I took his picture by himself and he wasn't here for a group picture.)
Ready for JUNIOR HIGH!
And by 8:00 a.m. these two were ready for an exciting day, too.
Our second stop is the Intermediate school for A, which is right across the street from our last stop, C's Elementary.  It was strange to see Alexee walking into (what still seems like) "Rhett's building" and to see C walk in alone.  Everyone did fine, and everyone had a great first day.
Praying for a wonderful year of growth for all three of them!

Back-to-School Trip

Friday the 12th was Meet-the-Teacher for Alexee and Crosby.  We are very excited about both of their teachers.  We've heard that Mr. L is awesome, and we already know that we love Mrs. S from Alexee's 2nd Grade year (So happy to have her again)!!

As soon as we were finished with the school meetings we left for Kansas City for a back-to-school weekend.  We got there about 6pm, checked into our hotel and went to dinner at Cheesecake Factory. After dinner we walked to one of the nearby fountain areas.  It was such a nice night.
On Saturday we went to the zoo.  Lane and I enjoyed going there back in June and thought the kids would like it!
And we rode the Sky Safari several times.  We didn't know if Crosby would be willing to try it, but he loved it.  On just one sky ride across "Africa" the boys and I spotted four snakes on the ground below.  You can see a big black snake in this picture below Crosby's tennis shoes.  Scary!
Ricky the Rhino and the sleeping lions were neat to see up close.
We also liked the hippo, koalas, penguins, sea lions and the Wings of Wonder bird show.
It was a fun day, but it was very hot so we were running out of energy by mid-afternoon and decided to move on to our next stop:  Trader Joe's.  Air-conditioning and free samples!  :)  We stocked up on coffee, figs, cookie butter, lemon wafers, biscotti, etc.  We went back to the hotel to rest for a few minutes, then we had dinner at Jack Stack BBQ.  Yum!  Sunday morning we had breakfast at Cheesecake Factory.  We tried two other local places first, but the wait was really long at both.  We were able to get a table quickly at CF, and the brunch was good.  I had French toast, Lane had a Monte Cristo breakfast sandwich, and the kids all ordered pancakes.
I love the landscaping in the plaza area, especially the yellow cannas--so pretty!
After breakfast we went downtown to the science discovery center at Union Station.
Lots of fun activities and exhibits there!
Everyone tried the giant hamster wheel, and Rhett rode the sky bike.
Sunday night we ate at P.F. Chang's and finished the evening with ice cream from Cold Stone Creamery.  It was just a short walk back to our hotel so we sat on the patio to eat dessert.  The sky was so pretty.  It was a sweet weekend together, and a great way to end the summer break.
We drove home Monday morning, then Lane and Alexee went to pick Bogart up that afternoon from my Dad while I took the boys to get their back-to-school haircuts.  I started washing the large pile of laundry from the weekend, and the washing machine broke.  Ugh!  (Thanks to Lane's detailed Google research, his awesome handyman skills and the convenience of two-day shipping it was working again by Thursday!  I'm kind of crazy about keeping up with laundry.  We were very thankful that it was a fairly easy and inexpensive fix.)  Monday evening was also 7th grade orientation for Rhett at the junior high.  The principal gave a welcome speech in the gym, then everyone rotated through their seven class periods (5 minute versions) to meet all the teachers and find out what to expect for the first week of school.  Rhett has at least one or two friends in every class hour, so he was happy about that.  There are two lunch periods, but it seems that he has the same one as the majority of his friends so that was good news, too.  Several people have told me that the junior high is a great, positive environment with a strong emphasis on character, hard work and relationship-building.  I think Rhett is ready for it and will do great there.
Ready or not, it's time to get back into the school routine!

Texas Friends in Town

We always look forward to time with our Texas friends!  (2014, 2015) We are so happy they are willing to make the long drive to see us!  They live about an hour apart in the Dallas area, so they are able to travel together.  They came up 8/7-8/10, and it was great to be together again.  It's still hard to believe that all our families left Little Rock three years in a row, 2013-2015.  The kids are growing up so fast, and I'm really thankful that we stay in touch.

The forecast did not look promising at all at first, but the rain moved out and we had very nice (cooler!) weather while they were here.  So Monday we decided to go to Silver Dollar City and do the Marvel Cave tour.  Our cave guide was very theatrical and managed to scare some of our kids before the tour even began, but other than that it was a fun activity.
We also rode some rides after the tour.
End of Summer 2016
The girls are going into 3rd and 4th grade, Crosby into 2nd, and the big boys into 7th...which just does not seem possible.   Weren't we all just meeting at the park to let the kids play after picking them up from pre-school!?
Lane was off on Tuesday so he took the big boys to lunch and a movie while the girls plus Crosby had lunch at The Keeter Center.   It was a fun day!
Chef Crosby!
That evening the kids went swimming and we ate dinner at home.
Hopefully we won't have to wait a year to see them again.  Maybe we can travel to TX during one of our school breaks.  It has been such a fun summer, and spending time with these special friends was a great way to end it.
