Trip to the Zoo

Lane had the Monday off before school started, so we decided to visit the zoo in Springfield.  It was a fun (but hot!) day.
Rhett thought this was a funny thing to have for sale in the gift shop:
The fish pond was really pretty.
The hippo trying to stay cool!
The petting zoo was probably the kids' favorite part.  The animals there were very cute and curious (or maybe just hungry?)
Face-to-face with the giraffes!
Not really ready for summer break to end (although I'd be fine with 70 degree weather again).  Thankful for a great family day.

AR, MO & TX Reunited

Our last guests during summer break, August 11-14th:  Ali & her kids and Lianne & her kids!  Lianne made the long drive from Texas, and Ali drove up from LR.  We didn't want to wish summer away, but we've been looking forward to seeing all of them for weeks!

Ali arrived around lunch time so we met them for lunch.  Loved seeing the kids' excitement when they were together again!
And Lianne's family arrived soon after lunch.  Together again!!  (We missed Stacy's family--would have loved to see them too!)  The kids all played great together and had so much fun.
Tuesday we spent several hours at the water park.
(The girls wanted to do their nails before going swimming--so cute!)
That evening we had Andy's frozen custard for dinner!  The kids were all fine with that!  :)
(I tried the key lime pie concrete--best meal ever.)
And to continue with our healthy eating plan, Ali decided to get up early Wednesday morning and make a run to Grandma Ruth's for homemade cinnamon rolls.  She brought back two boxes of these:  (Thanks, Al!)
Wednesday afternoon we took the kids to play mini-golf and then had a late lunch at Cantina Laredo.  It was so good to laugh and catch up with these dear friends!
Already looking forward to the next time we can all be together!

"Back-to-School Bash"

On August 6th my parents and my sister and her family came to visit for a back-to-school celebration!  That afternoon the kids played flag football in the back yard...

They always love spending time with their cousins!
We decided to fit in a quick go-cart ride before dinner and the show.  My family is notorious for seeing how many activities we can cram into a short amount of time, but we always have fun!  You might notice that Rhett is wearing cowboy boots with khaki cargo shorts.  This is because he was told  at our last visit to the track that he was not quite tall enough to drive himself on the "heavy metal high rise".  This was very disappointing to him, so this time he chose his footwear carefully...hoping for better results.  After measuring him three times on two different charts, the Track employee finally gave him permission to drive his own cart!  WHEW!!!
Mario drove Crosby and Dad drove Alexee.  Jaiden and Rhett drove themselves, and Jeryn drove his own cart on the classic track right beside the high-rise track.  Mom, Mic & I took pictures from the fence.  :)
We hurried off to a quick dinner at Panera then went to the Sight & Sound theater to see Jonah.  We had heard great things about it, and we all really really enjoyed it!  The kids were all so good during the show--they were very interested in it!  I would definitely recommend it.
Mo & Grandad with the grandkids:
Rhett & Jaiden starting 5th grade
Alexee & Jeryn starting 2nd grade
Crosby starting Kindergarten
Mom & Dad drove home that night, but Mic's family spent the night with us.  We had a good time playing at home Thursday morning and going to the water park that afternoon.
Enjoying the wave pool
We loved having you guys here to visit!

That Friday my Aunt Linda and my cousin's daughter, Maddi, came to visit for the afternoon.  It was so good to see them!  Alexee even lost a tooth while they were here.  They brought us a Tyler candle and a jar of homemade blackberry jelly--yum!  We've been enjoying both!

LR Trip, School Supplies & More (Catching Up!)

The last weekend of July the kids and I went to Little Rock and Hot Springs to visit friends and family.  It was wonderful to be back HOME!  We went straight to our old street and said hello to our neighbors and dropped Alexee off at Addison's house for her "almost sleepover" birthday party.  She had such a good time hanging out with her friends!  While she was there, the boys and I went to Larry's Pizza for dinner with some other neighbors and Rhett's friend, Lawson.  I loved getting to catch up with them.  It seemed like a lot had happened in just seven weeks.
We picked Alexee up from the party and drove to Hot Springs to spend the night with Lane's parents. We had a great time there, too.  We took the kids to Mid-America Museum Saturday morning then had lunch and let the kids swim at the pool.
The Thursday before our trip, the kids finished their two weeks of swim lessons.  Rhett and Alexee were both swimming already, but they practiced strokes, etc.  Crosby was really excited about learning to swim--he was ready to be able to do the things R & A could do at the pool.  Here they are on their last day of lessons:
So when we got to the pool in Hot Springs on Saturday Crosby decided he would swim across the pool.  I was nervous about it, but Rhett stayed right beside him and Crosby did it!!  He went back and forth across the pool several times!  He was SO PROUD!
That evening we went to Purple Cow for dinner, and the kids were happy that their cousins met us there!
Flowers in bloom at Lane's parents' place:
Sunday morning we left Hot Springs in time to make it to our church in Little Rock.  It was SO GOOD to be there!
After church we went to the Apple store, per Rhett's request.  We all miss things about Little Rock--the Apple store is one of R's most missed.  And one of mine is the BLT wedge salad from Big Orange, also pictured below (that's where we had lunch).  Moving has made me realize that (among other things) Little Rock has wonderful people, many lovely streets, neighborhoods & parks and plenty of delicious food.
Next stop, the Martins' house to spend one more night!  We were so glad to get to see them.  They'd just returned from vacation with extended family, so they could have probably used some quiet time, but they were super sweet to welcome us for the night!  We went to the pool with them, which was super fun.  Crosby decided he was ready to jump off the diving board, so with Emily's encouragement (and a life ring in hand) I let him do it.  He loved it, did great and jumped off the board many many more times that day!  Oh, we had some other excitement too.  Rhett threw a ball at Kylie (while saying "think fast!") and knocked out K's (kind-of) loose tooth.  It could have been bad, but thankfully it didn't hurt her and they found the tooth in the shallow end.
Love these friends!
Monday was a beautiful, not-too-hot day so we packed a picnic and went to one of our favorite parks to play and eat lunch.  I miss this so much.
On Friday we visited the C of O Farmers Market that someone had told us about.  It was a fun morning, especially watching the swans on the campus lake.
We have had a very mild summer--67 degrees that day, AUGUST 1!  Crazy, but I'm certainly not complaining!!!
I'm realizing this is the longest post ever and covers way too many topics...but I just want to get caught up.  :)  That Friday evening, 8/1, Lane had to work so the kids and I met my parents for dinner.  It's so nice to be close enough to do that, 30 minute drive for us, 45 min. for them.  We had a great time with them:
the girls and the boys
We've also been school supplies shopping...
...and made an another trip to Silver Dollar City one afternoon when Lane was off work
...and Crosby had his K screening appointment at the school.  He did great and wasn't nervous at all.
