We had a busy September! The kids seems to be adjusting to their new schools, making new friends and getting involved in school activities. They've also started soccer (R & C), flag football (C) and gymnastics (A). R will start math team next week too.
Early in the month I took Bogart to the vet for his check-up in Springfield. He had a bump on his side that we were curious about, so the vet wanted to do a biopsy. Lane felt confident that it was nothing dangerous, but I still worried for two days until they called with the lab report. Thankfully he's fine--just a benign lypoma. He's in good health and is even back down to his goal weight. He seems to get a lot more exercise since we moved.
Things stay really busy for Lane at the hospital, but he likes it and works with great people. On his days off we usually try to go out for lunch together, which is always fun. One day we tried the restaurant at a local resort. The view was so pretty--we'll have to go back in a few weeks when the leaves are in full fall color!
Alexee adores her teacher and her class. When the weekends roll around she tells me that she can't wait until Monday so she can see Miss B and her friends. I'm very very thankful that she likes it (and I try not to be offended that she'd rather be with them than at home with me-ha!). She had two little girls come home with her one Friday for a play-date. They were so excited when I picked them up from school! They had a great time--we'll have to do it again soon! Sweet sweet girls!
One Sunday we went straight from church to Silver Dollar City, ate lunch there and rode rides for a few hours. It was a beautiful fall day and the park was decorated for the new season. We've always just gone in summer or at Christmas time, so it was neat to see the fall festival decorations.
The boys are liking both soccer and flag football. Their coaches are all super nice, and they are getting to know the kids on the teams.
C's first soccer game, 9/27
Lane and Rhett took Crosby to his first football practice, then Alexee and I stopped by after gymnastics to see how it was going. It was one of those weird moments for me that made me feel like I was 10,000 miles from "home". I didn't say anything at the time, but Lane later said he had a similar thought during practice. Some days it seems somewhat like home here, then other times, such as the moment when I took the picture on the right below, it just seems so unfamiliar and far-removed from our "regular" life.
He's had two flag football games now. Mom and Dad came up for the first one--we loved having them here!! Mo helped him tie his flags on for the first time! (Thanks for taking the camera and taking lots of great pictures, Rhett! You are a great photographer!!)
Half-time talk
He loves to get to run with the ball. He almost had two touchdowns in the second game. He was within about 1 yard both times I think, but the ref blew the whistle once because it looked like a boy had pulled his flag but he actually hadn't. C stopped running when he heard the whistle. The second time someone did pull his flag. He did great though and seemed to have fun (although the first week he said it was too hot-ha!).
(love the mouth piece!)
Alexee and a new friend turning cart-wheels at the far end of the field during the game. They weren't too interested in the score!
She likes her gymnastics class this semester--she has lots of energy so this seems like a good activity for her! She goes one day each week after school, but might move to two days if she continues to like it. That's her on the beam closest to the window:
Rhett had his first soccer game last weekend too. Several boys from his class are on the team and invited him to play with them--I was so glad he wanted to. It has been a good way to get to know some other families better. He's doing great, and I'm really proud of him for getting involved, learning the game and meeting new people! We will have to miss this Saturday, but he's looking forward to the next game. (I didn't do a good job with photos this first time, but I'll do better next week.)
Good job, R!! So proud of you for working hard.
This was before church one morning:
We like getting to see wildlife around our house here. Deer come right up into the back yard to eat grass (I wish they wouldn't eat the landscaping, but oh well, they're pretty and fun to watch)! We have also been seeing wild turkeys on our street, and one day they were right beside our yard.
