Swimming again

Rhett has started swim lessons again this spring.  I'm so proud of him for remembering most of what he learned last year.  His teacher says that he's doing well with each of the elements and just needs to work on putting everything together.  Alexee took one lesson and wasn't afraid, but she was a lot younger than the other little girl so the teacher recommended private lessons since she's so young.  We're now waiting for an instructor to open up for that time slot so that A can get in the pool too.  It's quite an ordeal trying to get everyone there for R's 30 minute lesson, but I really want him to be a great swimmer, so it's something I'm pushing myself to do.

C sleeps through most lessons:

18 day old Crosby

I dropped by the pediatrician's office today to have C weighed...he's up to 8 lb. 5 oz. (up from 7 lb. 10 oz. at his one week check-up).  He wasn't happy about having his picture made here, but I wanted to snap a few because the newborn look fades so quickly.  :( A lot of the ones I took were out of focus, so I might try again tomorrow, but here are a few of him at 18 days old:
Big Sis really wanted to be part of the photo session!  She's still my "baby", but doesn't she look like such a big girl next to her newborn brother?  She had her two year portrait made Saturday afternoon.  We went to the studio to view them today, and I LOVED them!  I can't wait to get our order in...I'll post a picture of the one we hang on the wall once we get it.  The portrait we have of Rhett at age 2 is so special to me--I'm excited to have one of her to hang with his!

I love how sweet her hand looks right here:
And her cute toes!  I painted them for her portrait on Saturday--she loves to have her toes done.

Easter Sunday

Well, the kids didn't really cooperate for Easter photos, and neither did the weather.  It has been POURING rain all day today!  We had a good morning at church though, and I was thankful to get to go and celebrate Easter Sunday.  I guess our outdoor egg hunt will take place later this week.  Rhett and I colored eggs during Alexee's nap, so we'll be ready when the sun comes out again.

(Crosby was asleep, and we didn't want to wake him up just for a dreary, indoor photo...so here he is on his first holiday--in the car seat!)

Various things post

Yesterday Lane's parents were here for the day, which was great. Lane's Mom watched R & A while Crosby and I went out for a quick lunch with Lane. Then I hurried home, fed Crosby and then took Rhett out for a little date. We went out for a purple milkshake (his idea) and then went to the toy store to pick out a new toy with some of his birthday money. Here he is using his quarters at the gumball machine. The Easter special:
He chose a toy gun at the store--he said he'd been wanting one ever since he got his handcuffs. He slept with it in the bed with him last night.
Yesterday was also a big day for Crosby...TWO WEEKS OLD already! The first few weeks are always such a blur with a new baby, but it's hard to believe we've already been home two weeks. He's doing great--a super sweet, cuddly baby!

This is how C likes to sleep--curled up in a ball against your chest. He'll sleep for hours this way. Bobba held him this way while Lane and I went to the Easter play at our church last night.
The program was great. It's honestly been difficult to slow down this week to think about the meaning of Easter, so it was nice to have an hour to go to the program and worship last night. Tim ended the program by reminding everyone that if the story ended at the cross, there would be no hope. However, it doesn't end there...it ends at the empty tomb. I'm looking forward to Sunday when we celebrate the RISEN Savior!
This morning our neighbor came over to play with Rhett. They found a caterpillar on the back deck and put him in a Cool Whip container with holes in the top for observation.
They also had a great time having water balloon fights. It seemed too cold to me, but they didn't seem to notice. They were soaked and loved it. Alexee joined right in, of course.

Bubble time

While R was in Flippin and C was napping, Alexee and I got to go out on the back deck and spend some time together blowing bubbles and soaking up some sunshine. You can barely see Bogart in these pictures because he blends into the shadows, but he loves to try to chase/eat the bubbles and will jump right in your face trying to get to them. Alexee thought it was funny.

Happy Birthday to Lindy

On Sunday I took Alexee to another friend's birthday party. This was Lindy's 1st birthday, and she was so cute eating her little smash cake. Instead of using her hands at first, she just bent down and tried to put her mouth on the cake to eat it. I think she loved the icing!

Happy Birthday to Lindy--isn't she such a beautiful baby!

The hospital experience

NOTE: This post is out of order, but it took me a while to do the photo album to go along with it, and I wanted to include it for the sake of documentation. This probably won't be very interesting for you to read--so you might just want to skip right to the PHOTOS. I wanted to write about some of the details so I could go back and read it all later.

Crosby's Arrival

We were scheduled to induce at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 26th so my parents came down the evening before to be here with the kids. We watched American Idol so that we'd be caught up for results night on Thursday and could watch it from our hospital room. :) I didn't sleep very well that night of course, but I was excited to get to the hospital the next morning. Lane thinks I'm crazy, but I've loved the "hospital experience" all three times--pain, exhaustion and all. To me, it's a sweet sweet time that I want to remember forever. The thought that it would be our last time to go through all of this made me want to cherish it all the more.

I was already dilated and having slight contractions when the nurse first checked and started monitoring me (I thought I'd been having mild contractions for a few days, but I wasn't sure). They started the medicine soon after 7 a.m. and contractions started increasing. I don't really remember what time it was--a little after 8 a.m. I think--Dr. B came in to say hello and broke my water. He laughed when I said, "Well, I'm so thankful I made it through three children without that ever happening in Wal-Mart." I guess I don't have a very high pain tolerance because it wasn't long before I was requesting the epidural. I honestly thought C would come faster than he did, and I feared waiting until it was too late to ask for the epidural. I was nervous about getting it because it took several tries to get the epidural in right with Alexee, and that was not a fun time. However, the guy that did it this time was wonderful and I barely felt a thing. For some reason it took a while to get the right dosage though...I'd feel fine for a while and then start feeling terrible contractions just minutes later. I think he came back to the room three times to increase the medicine until I finally couldn't even feel or move my legs! If I wanted to move my legs in the bed, Lane or the nurse had to move them for me! (That made it interesting when it was finally time to push.) My parents and Rhett and Alexee and Lane's parents came back to see us while we waited, and my home-town pastor and his wife were in town and they stopped by as well. We waited patiently and finally at about 1:20 p.m. the doctor arrived and it was time to push! Ten minutes later, we welcomed precious Crosby to the world! The second he arrived my tears started flowing...I was asking Lane if he was okay. I was so thankful to see his face, so overjoyed to get to live that moment again: the moment where you meet your child for the very first time but instantly feel like you've loved him/her forever. I wish I could press "rewind" and re-live that 10 minutes again and again. I got to hold him, then they wrapped him up and soon the kids and our parents all came in together to see him. I remember loving it when Rhett came in the room to see Alexee for the first time, and this was even more special having them both there to meet their baby brother. They were excited and Alexee was very curious. She wanted to touch him, and Rhett--being experienced at this--wanted to hold him, which he did. And there we sat on the hospital bed, a truly blessed and thankful family of FIVE! God is so good.

My parents took the kids back to our house and Lane's parents left for Hot Springs. We were exhausted from the day's events, but Lane went out to pick up a to-go order at Outback, then came back and we ate and watched the American Idol results together. He went home late and I tried to get some rest there. I was sore and the nurses had to come in often to check my temperature and blood pressure and the nursery brought C in every three hours for feeding, so it was another restless night, but that's okay. Lane spent a little time with Rhett & Alexee the next morning and then they all came back to the hospital to visit. We were cleared to check out that evening and got home about 5 p.m. Mom and the kids met us in the driveway and Rhett and Alexee ran to greet us. It was great to be home--I missed R & A so much even in the short time that we were gone, and I was anxious to all be together as a family. Crosby is a wonderful baby, we feel so blessed to have him. Rhett and Alexee are doing well with the adjustment, and Lane and I are learning to balance three kids in the house. Several people have asked if it's a lot harder than two. The actual shock of bringing a newborn home has been nothing compared to the first baby. Crosby seems really easy and even the nights don't really seem bad (he eats and goes right back to sleep, but he just won't sleep in his bed yet--I have to hold him). I think the difficult part is just the constant needs of the combined three and having only 4 hands if Lane's here, 2 if it's just me. It seems like every time I sit down to nurse (which is all the time right now!), the dog goes to the back door wanting to go out and Alexee strips off her pants and diaper and starts yelling "pee pee, poo poo". I didn't realize what a help it was that Rhett was fully potty-trained when she was born! We're slowly getting the hang of it. I think everything will be just fine!

Thank you all for your prayers during this special time in our lives!

Happy Birthday, Maylee!

Alexee's friend, Maylee, turned two this week, and we were invited to celebrate with her yesterday! She had such a cute party, and Alexee had fun. Crosby slept through the whole thing, so it was nice to get to focus on Alexee and watch her play.

She wanted to carry the gift in, but stopped to observe a bug on the sidewalk:
Maylee had the cutest, yummiest cupcakes ever. Isn't that a sweet picture of the little birthday girl on the table?I think I might call the bakery that made these and ask them to bake me a dozen--just to eat by myself. :)
This was as close as we could get to a group photo of the kids present. They were wiggly and ready to eat instead of pose for pictures.

Happy 2nd Birthday to you, Maylee Rose!
You're such a sweet friend!
When we got home, I tried to get A's picture by our azaleas. They are in full bloom right now and look so pretty in the front flowerbed.

Aunt Linda meets Crosby

We had a pleasant surprise on Friday--my Aunt Linda called that morning to see if we'd be home and said she was thinking about driving down to see us. We were so glad to see her and introduce her to Crosby. She read books with Alexee and brought her a cute hairbow with an "A" on it. She brought Rhett two books and Crosby this beautiful, soft brown and blue blanket and these CUTE CUTE bunny slippers--which he can wear for Easter Sunday!
I'm really missing Rhett...he has been at my parents' house since Thursday evening. I know he's had a wonderful time though. They said the weather has been great and they've played outside and done all sorts of fun things. I think they planted tomato plants and pumpkin seeds yesterday. They went to the farm store and looked at the baby bunnies and chicks. Dad said he bought a few for Rhett, but I'm praying he's joking! :) My sister had a rabbit and a rabbit hutch when she was a kid--hopefully that won't show up at my house any time soon.

Visitor, Check-ups, etc.

When my sister came to the hospital to see us last Thursday, Crosby had just had his first bath and his temperature had dropped slightly, so they had him under the lights to try to warm him up. It took a while, so Micaela didn't actually get to hold him that day. :( I think she was anxious to get her hands on him! She came by to visit on Wednesday (sorry for the out-of-focus picture, Mic). This was made on Wednesday, too (6 days old):
Yesterday we had a family outing to the pediatrician's office for Rhett's 5 yr and Crosby's 1 wk check-ups. Thank goodness Lane went along with me because we had to split up at one point--Lane took Rhett to a room for hearing and vision screening and I took Crosby (and Alexee) to the lab for a jaundice test (his test came back fine--just a small amount that is normal in newborns). Rhett also had to get one shot, which I felt bad about because I honestly thought he was done with shots for now and I'd told him I didn't think he had to get any shots this trip. He was really brave though, and didn't make a big deal out of it.
Me and the boys :) (that seems strange to make that plural!)
