Back in November Lane got a sideline pass to the Arkansas game--he was on the medical team that night. No emergencies came up in his section, but he had a great time watching the game! (I tried to point to him in the pictures, but he's wearing khaki pants and a black fleece vest--pictures of the tv screen from the recorded game.)

(These are out of order). This was on Alexee's Thanksgiving place mat that she made at school. So sweet.

Rhett enjoying a Sonic shake one day when I had lunch with him at school.
I found my old paper dolls in the cedar chest and let Alexee play with them.
Alexee picked this at the playground and brought it home to put it in water. I love that she loves flowers.

Rhett wanted me to wake them up so they could count down to the new year. I guess it wasn't as fun as it sounded to him. Alexee was mad at me for using the flash. Rhett stood up briefly, counted down from 10, then got right back in bed. This was at 11:59 p.m.

While at the toy store, Crosby got a little toy rocket and Alexee got a puppy painting kit. She was sweet to let R & C paint with her. Here's C putting the final details on his puppy.

Today Rhett was invited to his school's Accelerated Reader Awards Ceremony. Each student has an Accelerated Reader ("AR") goal for the semester, and to be invited to the AR Celebration students must meet their reading goals and pass the book quizzes. The school and AR Committee really work hard to make the celebrations special and motivating for the kids with fun decorations (Hollywood red carpet/movie star theme) and great prizes.

After all the individual names had been called, there was a special drawing for $100 gift cards to a local toy store. One name was drawn for each grade...and guess whose name was drawn for the 2nd grade...Rhett's!!! Today was Friday the 13th, but it was a lucky day for him! His face lit up so big when they called his name--I was happy for him.Posted by The Garners at 11:10 PM 2 comments
I was excited when I saw red burlap at Hobby Lobby a few days ago. I couldn't resist buying a few yards of it with Valentine's Day just around the corner. I used newspaper to make a heart pattern, traced it onto the burlap, used the dot sponge for the polka-dots and then stuffed it full of Kroger bags and hot-glued the front and back together. I used ribbon that I had on hand to make a hanger and put it on the armoire in dining room.

I painted her annual birthday plate with a ladybug on it. I forgot to take a picture when I'd finished it, but I'll take one after it has been fired. I'll probably use it on the cake table at the party.
She also saw a red & black tutu on Etsy when we were browsing for ideas. She asked if I could try to make one. (Key word being "try", but here are the materials. Plus I found those fun polka-dot leg warmers at Hobby Lobby.)

Alexee is always coming up with some sort of craft that she wants to do. Today she decided to make herself some shoes. She got the construction paper :) and glitter glue and went to work on her design. She asked me to trace around her feet to get the shape/size. Then she cut pieces to make the covers over the toes. She got a little frustrated with me when I was trying to help her glue those top pieces on so that they'd be the right size for her foot. First they were too tight, then too loose. When they were too loose, she said, "Oh, just leave it like that. That way I'll be able to wear these for a couple of years." :) She cracks me up. She added "rubies" and "diamonds" for the finishing touches. She is so much fun!

Yesterday my sister and I took the kids swimming. Rhett and Alexee had been asking me when they could swim, so it worked out great to get together with cousins for a fun afternoon. Crosby was napping at home with Lane, so it wasn't as difficult to keep an eye on everyone. I really need to sign them up for swim lessons soon--Rhett does great but just needs to work on strokes, and Alexee seems to be completely fearless now, so she'd probably learn quickly and start swimming with just a little bit of guidance.
Even though the big pool is heated, they said the water was chilly. They'd take short breaks and warm up in the hot tub.

This is the recipe for the sauce that my sister made for our Christmas brunch. It is delicious! We used it for waffles, but it would also be great for ice cream, cake, etc.

Well, after all the family get-togethers and other holiday fun in December, it suddenly seems like I have very little to blog about. School and MDO have started back, and we made it to both on time and only forgot one back pack and couldn't find one coat. I think we were all ready for just a little bit of space...the kids were beginning to fight constantly which makes my head hurt! Bogart got a much needed haircut yesterday. He's always so scared when I drop him off at the groomer but he always looks so cute when I pick him up.
Last night Lane and I were able to go out for a dinner date. We decided to eat at Cantina Laredo which means we made it 2.5 days into our "eating healthier" plan before we totally messed up. Such will-power. After that huge bowl of cheese dip and a Mexican apple pie, I felt really guilty and tried to do better today! We sat by the fireplace at the restaurant last night--a cozy place on a chilly night. It's always nice to just get out for dinner together. We'd planned to go see Mission Impossible, but decided we weren't in a movie mood.
Rhett and Crosby tried out the neighbors' new Jeep. Crosby cried and threw himself down on the grass because he wanted to drive--not be a passenger. When I finally gave in and let him drive he had the BEST time. He only ran over my foot twice.
