Lunch Date

Lane, Alexee and I had a fun lunch date today at one of my favorite places in town: Trio's. I had one of my three favorite dishes there, Peck's Special Salad. We also had spinach dip and pita chips for an appetizer--delicious! We decided to skip dessert, but they have a great dessert tray. I'm already looking forward to their strawberry shortcake (summer availability). Thanks, Lane, for the treat. We always love lunch dates with you!

The Birthday Fun Continues

Here are a few misc. pictures from this week:

My friend Allison gave A this dress for her birthday and it's so sweet on her!
These leftover balloons have provided a lot of entertainment.
Rhett having a breakfast "picnic" with the new beach towel and picnic basket that Jaiden & Jeryn gave him for his b-day.
Don't these look yummy!?  I picked up cupcakes for R to share with his class today for an early birthday treat.

Rhett's wonderful teacher, Ms. Jodie, made him this cute t-shirt!  He wore it all afternoon and slept in it tonight!

Easter Attire

Easter is really sneaking up on me this year--I keep forgetting that it's weekend after next! Alexee received several pretty dresses for her birthday, so I didn't go shopping for a specific Easter dress for her this year.  I think this one that my parents gave her will be just right.  :)  If it's cold (which I feel sure it will be), she has a little sweater to wear over it.  Today I went to Children's Place to look for a green Polo style shirt for Rhett to wear that matches the green leaves in A's dress.  I bought two options for him--a long-sleeve button down or a short-sleeve Polo...depending on the weather.  He'll just wear his khaki pants and "brown shoes".  I bought Alexee a cute bow to match, but she will only have it on for pictures because she will NOT leave a bow in her hair--which drives me crazy!  :)

A future in pro football?

Rhett received a Peyton Manning Nerf football from a friend for his birthday. Do you think Peyton ever practiced in swim trunks and cowboy boots?
I like the expression on his face in this one.Bogart wasn't much of a team player.

The Birthday Celebration Begins

Rhett's actual birthday isn't until the 17th, but we had his birthday party yesterday afternoon. I think he really had fun. Rhett and Alexee are both here "helping" me at the computer, so I won't elaborate on the party...just take a look at the pics here. :)

Snowman Dress

I'm going to assume (hope) that it will be time for spring dresses now...so I dressed Alexee in her snowman dress one more time and snapped her picture in the snow. Our snowman had toppled over, so he couldn't be in the photo.

Bundled Up!

We did get snow! There wasn't much when we first woke up this morning, but it continued to snow throughout the day, so there was finally enough to play in!

Rhett cleaning up for Alexee (she took the lid off of the sprinkles).

Wishing she could bundle up and go outside with Rhett

These bulbs were a little too optimistic about the arrival of spring. I hope they'll still bloom??

The finished product. :)

Snow is falling...

11:33 p.m.--just looked out and snow is falling! I really hope there is enough on the ground for Rhett to play in tomorrow morning. I feel guilty for not keeping him home from school on Tuesday because the snow had melted by the time I picked him up, and he was so disappointed. :( Hopefully we can make up for it tomorrow. And maybe there will even be enough snow to cancel school for Lane so we can just have a fun family day at home!

Mom's Twins

Mom sent me this picture of her with her twin baby calves earlier this week. I thought it was cute!

The Pengellys

My friend Melody just started a blog! She has such a precious family, and she is so sweet and creative--I'm sure her blog will be wonderful! Check it out here. M, I'm so glad you decided to do this...I'm adding you as one of my links! :)

Snow Day!

Spring Indoors

It was certainly not "spring-like" outdoors today (it rained and rained and rained some more), but we added a few spring touches inside anyway. I love Easter and spring decorations (although I don't have many).

I've had this little tree since college--I had it in my room at school (Nicole, do you remember this?) :)

Lane's Mom gave me these cute egg candles last year. They're too cute to burn! The white container is from Southern Living at Home, and I put florist foam in the bottom and stuck decorative eggs in the container and hid the foam with Easter grass.

Heather gave me this cute polka-dot Easter egg dish when I went to visit her last week (thanks, H!) I meant to buy pastel candies for it, but I forgot, so it holds peppermints for now.

The tulips and jonquils that Rhett and I planted last fall are coming up in the front flower beds. I hope this cold front tomorrow doesn't ruin them!? I can't wait for them to bloom!

Swimming, Day 1

R has been so excited about starting swim lessons today! He nearly drove me crazy asking if it was time to go yet! :) He shopped for swim trunks last week at Old Navy--he chose his new brown ones to wear to get started today. I didn't know how he'd feel about actually getting into the water once we got there, but he did great. He doesn't like getting his face wet AT all, but hopefully he will improve with that. (Maybe he will improve and we'll even be able to give up the bath-time goggles!?)

The big challenge was keeping Alexee out of the pool. She could see Rhett and, as always, thought she should be able to do whatever he was doing. She was calling (her version of) "brother" out across the pool, and as you can see in the pictures below, she made her way over to the water.

It seems a little weird to be taking swim lessons when the weather is predicting 7" of snow in some parts of our state tomorrow, but I guess we're thinking ahead to warmer, sunnier days. (As we all know, it will be hot and humid here before long, and cold, dreary days will be a distant memory.) Hopefully Rhett will be a good swimmer by then and we'll be able to enjoy some fun in the sun!

Spring Clothes

It was warm enough this afternoon for A to wear one of her new spring outfits. I thought she looked so sweet!

Spring Day at the Zoo

It was a GORGEOUS spring day today--absolutely perfect. We started off the day with donuts at Krispy Kreme, then decided it was too pretty to go back home and be inside so we went to the zoo. L, R & A rode the train, and then I rode the merry-go-round with the kids (R calls it a "merry ol' round"). Here are some photos from a fun family day:

Have to see it to believe it

If you know me very well, you know I am beyond terrified of snakes.  I can't even stand to look at them on TV.  So what was I thinking today when we were at the zoo and there was a reptile show-n-tell going on?  I wanted to prove to myself that I would not faint if I touched a snake (a harmless king snake).  I'm proud of myself...but it was horrible.  I will not be buying one for a pet any time soon.  I hope I don't have nightmares tonight.

These are such lovely expressions on my face.  You can really tell that my heart was in it.
