Toad Racers

A BIG thank you to my sister Micaela and her family for inviting Rhett to the Toad Suck Daze toad race this evening!!! And thank you to Mic for taking all these great photos of the event! I should have her write this post since she was there, but I'll try to record what she told me over the phone.

Mic said R griped about standing in line to check-in, but judging by his smile, it must have been worth the wait:
Micaela, Jaiden & Rhett
Thank you to M's friend Leslie for finding two toads for R & J to race!!! I've never seen a toad in our yard, so we would have been in trouble without toad-hunting help.
Isn't this a classic little boy picture!? Check out the tatoo on his arm...Micaela was calling him Dennis Rodman--ha!
And another classic picture of boy vs. girl reactions to the toad. I think this is so funny!
I think this was where the announcer asked him the name of his toad. I guess it caught him off guard since he hadn't named it.
Jaiden apparently overcame her fear of the toad because here they are at the starting line.I overheard Rhett talking to himself earlier this week (which he does a lot) after I told him he'd been invited to participate in the event. He said quietly, "What if I don't win the race?"

Very serious racer:I got a call from my sister's cell phone not long after race time. It was Rhett calling, and he said, "Momma, I WON FIRST PRIZE, and I even got a ribbon!!!!" Has this been his lucky week, or what...first the bluebird, now this. :) His little voice was so cute telling me the good news. I was so happy for him! Mic said that most of the toads hopped out of bounds and went every direction, but his nameless toad made three giant, determined leaps straight to the finish line!

A proud moment for a 5 year old boy:
Thank you, Jaiden and family for asking R to go with you today. I'm sure he'll want to go back next year.

You did perfect! Only one correction...that giant sized smile was just as we arrived (after he complained for having to "walk 600 miles" to the toad races. I honestly think that toad was hopping for his life...he tried to be so careful with the box because Uncle Mario told him that he didn't want to make his toad dizzy before the big race.

He only got it out of the box two dozen times during the ONE HOUR WAIT IN LINE! You need to post the picture of the toad after the finish line with the big camera in is face! HA! I was laughing so hard that real tears were in my eyes.

I'm not sure how in those brief few seconds I captured, R's face, J's struggle and Mario's reaction in the crowd as he pointed his finger straight at us nodding his head that Yes, indeed! He had the first place toad! All the while I am trying to take pictures, keep an eye on the toad bc he was determined to get away (he escaped a few times into the crowd before the race even began)

I recalled his comment to J on the "600 mile" walk that "if I win the race, I'll share my medal with you." Sweet, eh? That was approx ten minutes before he was one inch from her face telling her that her toad wouldn't win and he couldn't help if it was a loser!" HAAA! Talk about bringin' his game!!! He was then extrememly sweet to tell Jaisen that the green ribbon she was issued was one he allowed her to have because he "got two for winning" :) (Actually, they gave it to her and if you look closely it says particpant") Let the record show that his competitiveness most likely comes from his mother...when I was planning to get the toad from Leslie, she sent a text moments later that said, "do they look fast"...hmmmm.

In closing, J was completely ok with leaving her toad in the garage when we got back. Somehow I missed R sneaking his toad box into my house. As I walked into the playroom to check on them, he was JUST letting the toad loose! AAAAAHHHH! Luckily I grabbed him in time before he nearly disapeared into a bin full of stuff! Talk about walking in at the right time, Whew!

We're proud of you Rhett! It was worth that long wait!

I'm so excited that Rhett won! So, what are you doing with the toad now?

That was quite possibly one of the funniest things I've read in a long while!!! Hilarious.

That is too funny! Oh, if I had only known, Logan found a huge frog in my flowerbed yesterday. He informed me it was a bull frog, and Austin said it was a leopard frog, all I know is that he was fast!

I'm glad you had a great day, and the story was great, I can just hear Rhett.
